Spring Latch Rearview Mirror Removal Tool
The JMR357 allows you to slide the locking mirror bracket off a mirror button. Spring latch rearview mirrors have a small spring inside the bracket that is pushed down as you slide the mirror over the mirror button which then springs back into place, locking the mirror in place. Because this spring is hidden, it is difficult to release. Designed for use on Ford vehicles built after 2004. Made of high-impact plastic.
Removal:
Place the tool at the bottom of the mirror base, flat side against the glass and push the tool into the opening, compressing the spring. Then simply slide the mirror off the mirror button.

This tool is a must if you need to remove the interior rear view mirror on a 2012 Ford F-150 with the dimmable style mirror. It’s a one time use tool for me, but at $21 it’s much cheaper than if you break your windshield trying to get the mirror off with a screwdriver.

This worked perfectly for my wife’s 2017 Explorer. You really need to jam it up under the mirror Mount on the windshield using a rubber mallet. It does take some force but I never felt like I was getting close to cracking the windshield.
Once you have jammed it under the mirror mount you just need to tap the Mount (upwards) using the mallet and it gets loose enough to wiggle it side to side and pull it off of the metal mounting tab on the windshield.

Since I had my windshield replaced, the mirror has always vibrated, and always felt loose. I’ve tried many times just to push it further down, but it is really difficult, as there’s lots of friction, so was afraid to break the glass. This tool helped to relieve the spring tension, and a little more force to the top of the latching portion, and it finally slid all the way on. Back to factory solidity.

Works well if you know what you are looking for. There is a little button. The tool does not go into a slot. You hear a click when it releases.

Easy to use. Just insert under rear view mirror bracket and a light tap with a hammer and the mirror comes right off. Does not scratch windshield. A quality made product.
